twitter me softly...

Well, I decided to give it a shot. I've resisted for a long time, but we'll see if this is something I actually like.

I automatically had 10 people that I'm following, but I only have 1 person following me. So if you'd like to follow me here is my url http://twitter.com/aboynamedbarry.

I guess I should add it to my blog somewhere, but I don't know how to do that. I guess I can figure it out.

--------------------------------------------------

In other news, I got home last night at about 4:30 whereupon i promptly opened my laptop to see if it would connect... and guess what

IT DID!

Wanna take a stab at what I did the REST OF THE NIGHT! All the things and more I've been dying to do for the last 2 years!

I watched TV the entire time and sat in the chair with my feet up editing pictures and staying ONTOPOF my email like nobody's business.

In fact, I got an email from a friend telling me what time to come over tonight to babysit... and I had not written it down and consequently made other plans. So i called him up and he was like "whoa, how in the world did you resond so fast?! do you get email updates on your phone?" no, no i do not. I simply have wireless internet that works!

My conclusion about Best Buy. While I had a heckofatime trying to get what I wanted... I got it eventually. But really, it shouldn't be this much work.

I shouldn't have to call up more than once and get to the verge of an all out yell-fest to get what I want from my warranty. I'm going with newegg.com when I get my 5D. Of that I am sure (and the fact that Best Buy doesn't sell those anyway!)

--------------------------------------------------

I have three photo sessions coming up this month. Hopefully a 4th, but I really don't have the time. I had hoped that I would be able to continue booking sessions through the fall and into the winter, but I never really thought it would happen as well as it has!

Thank God for yearbook deadlines and procrastinating parents!

I met a lady the other day at a super huge consignment sale and struck up a conversation with her about photography. She was so excited to have met me and I am going to call her today to try and schedule something for November.

I decided that when the website goes live, and I have something official to send people to... I am going to go out and literally and personally solicit myself. What I want to do more than anything is newborn photography... like under 10 days kinda newborn.

So this is my idea... and you can tell me if you would be totally weirded out by this or if you would have welcomed this opportunity.

I'd like to go to the mall or target or heck, even babies R us and find pregnant women, approach them and engage in conversation and let them know I'm doing a promotional to get my business started. Give them my rates and then offer to take their newborns pictures (within 10 days of the birth) for FREE and if they like them, they can purchase prints from me...

Personally, I would probably freak out at an opportunity like that... but I'm looking for some opinions here. Would you be weirded out? Excited? Wondering why in the world this crazy girl thought it would be ok to come talk to you in the first place...?

Heh, it will be interesting. So let me know what you think you would do, or how you would react.

Yay for woreless!! I get a little panicky when I am someplace that doesn't have that available. :)

As far as the newborn picture thing, and because you asked for honesty, I think the idea is great!

No sitting fee for newborn pictures?! Awesome!!

But, for me personally, I would be weirded out by a stranger approaching me, trying to offer me something free, in a store. And I would probably wonder if you were any good or not (but I am assuming you'll have a business card to hand them so they can check it out later if they want??).

This is just me, and others may totally disagree, but I don't like it when people try and solicit me.

Now I am really confused! I thought I was following you when I got my picture squared away last night? What is twitter?

As far as going up to pregnant women and offering to take the babys pic....it will depend on the person you are asking, some will be weirded out and some will jump at the chance. You are a non threatening looking person so I think most of the women will be okay with it. You won't know until you try.

Your reaction will vary. You may get a few, but i wouldn't expect to get too many! But its definitely a great idea!

My husband has been urging me to join Twitter. If I give in, I will follow you. Still resisting right now!
As far as your idea, I would probably not be weirded out as long as you looked normal (which you do) and not like some strange person trying to steal my baby. I agree with some of the other commenters though that reaction will be very mixed. I would totally go for a free sitting though.
Another idea I will throw out to you is to check with some of your local OB-GYN offices and see if you can set up a display in their waiting rooms. You could promote the same offer you mentioned and if you already have some samples you could display them as well. My OB office has a photographer's display and I have always thought it was a great idea.

ACK! I love that idea! I think it's fantastic. And mom's love their pictures so it's not like they WOULDN'T buy them from you.

My thoughts are that the worst they can say is no. Then you just find someone else. It's a building phase, just gotta work out the kinks. :) I absolutely love it, though. Kudos. :)

P.S. Totally followed you on Twitter

Like many have said (especially, with the weird hormonal changes that come with preggers), it will really depend on the person. If you have a business card and flyer or brochure, that will be a bit better. When someone has valid information about you, they might not cringe so easily - and even if they say no initially, they might check out the website & give you a call. Plus, you will be explaining that you are trying to get your business off the ground. And maybe have a portfolio of some of the shoots you've already done so they can view a little of your work.

Personally, I would have jumped at the opportunity at a sitting like that. This is just me, though. I think I would also offer them at least one free print - that'll get them in to see the proofs and, most likely, purchase more.

I will be following you soon - I have to get back into my twitter. ;) I can help you with your Twitter widget, if you need it.

I'm following you!

Sounds like everything is looking up again!

I would be leary of a stalker steal your baby type of danger if someone approached me personally BUT if I saw a flyer or a set-up at a baby fair or the likes offering the same thing- I would have totally looked into it!

Just accidentally found you through American Mum, and I do newborn pictures. I only have one set that I use for advertising right now, and our website is currently not where I want it, so I'm not putting in a link, but here's my suggestion. Get in through a children's ministries program at your church and get in contact with pregnant women there and get them to give you references after you do the shoot so you have those on your website as well. New mom's, especially first timers are sometimes really picky about who they let in their home with an infant.

My youngest was 5 days, and the pictures are beautiful, mother baby pictures, or pictures with siblings at that age are so precious.
